A recurring theme in this list, but for me Phobolog fails to deliver consistently on its promises. When you add in not only the raw value of many of these cards, but also the points values and potential scoring of the Jovian tags that often are attached, Phobolog has the potential to have the most explosive start of any corporation.īut potential can only take you so far. Building up my titanium engine and the feeling of throwing out ridiculously expensive Space card after incredibly expensive Space card is unmatched in Terraforming Mars. This spaciest of space corporations is an Interplanetray Cinematics pumped up to 11 with a stronger focus on a single strategy, and while the titanium bonus actually complements the strategy of rushing an economy focussed on Space cards, the lower starting money and less flexible titanium restricts your other options even further than a similar steel start. From the beginning of my time with Terraforming Mars Phobolog has sat comfortably at number 1, but it no longer rules the ranking with a titanium fist. Credits will always be useful and being able to take a resource which becomes immaterial after a certain point and recycle it into a significant income makes Helion not only one of the strongest corporations, but possibly also the most flexible. Helion has a very powerful effect, a strong starting bonus and plenty of resources, but most importantly has no real downsides attached. And while the other players cry out in frustration, stamping their feet and shaking their Heat cubes once the temperature is maxed out, you simply revel in your pile of extra money as you buy your way to victory. In addition, heat production is abundant, and it is often possible to have 8 or more heat production only a few rounds in, meaning you can increase the temperature an extra time every round. Or with only a single increase in Heat production, you can be increasing the temperature and your TR every other turn, which realistically is comparable to UNMI’s bonus in many games. The ability to use Heat as Credits is extremely powerful, effectively giving you 3 Megacredit production from the start. If this list was solely based on strength, I would place Helion at the top of the list. On the other hand, you are risking your start on drawing at least some Building cards, and if these don’t appear you risk stalling your engine, and you will crash and burn on the currently lifeless red rock. When this works your productions can skyrocket, and you can become very rich, very quickly. The extra steel makes buying production cards a breeze as many of these have Building tags, but also allows you to allocate your money to acquiring the strongest starting hand possible, without worrying about the cost of all those projects. Interplanetary Cinematics invests heavily into the fastest start possible.
